Steiner Safari UltraSharp 10×30 – A Review Of The Binoculars For The Traveler!
Hello friends!
I haven’t written about optics for a long time now. I will return again to this favorite topic. At the moment, we are talking about the next German product made by Steiner, offering us very high-quality optics at a quite friendly price. The Steins produce not only binoculars, but also monoculars, telescopic sights, collimator sights with a red dot and just prisms, in general, the choice is great. But today I’ll tell you about one specific binocular, the model Safari UltraSharp 10 × 30.
The case is like from military binoculars, but the content is purely civil. ?
What is in the box?
Safari UltraSharp 10×30 comes in a simple, but beautiful and convenient box. A small “wah-effect” is present when you open the package, and there it is!
The bundle is quite simple, which a case with binoculars should be:
A bag-pocket for carrying binoculars, a hand strap and a strap to hang on your neck. A cloth for cleaning the optics and a manual are also present. All this is as always, but binoculars should not be judged from the set, but namely because of their optical characteristics.
Safari 10×30 Features
Despite its slightly oversized appearance, the Safari binoculars are quite compact and the little case itself is also small. Still, the model is made for tourists and travelers, and therefore should not have large dimensions and be heavy – because the compactness and every 100g for us are very important in marches, and trips. Its weight is 660g, a little more than a pound. Partly this weight (and I remember my first binoculars made of metal and produced in the USSR) is due to the choice of material for the case, the binoculars are made of “Makrolon”, this is a very light and durable polycarbonate plastic, which is additionally reinforced with fiberglass. Is there an analogy with the Glock pistol? Why is Makrolon good for these purposes? It’s simple – this material is very resistant to external weather conditions, to a fall in temperature and humidity, so that you can work with these binoculars at temperatures from -20 to +70 Celsius! However, I would not be surprised that even in the conditions of our harsh winter (periodic conditions), binoculars will easily survive the temperature of -30, but I would be afraid to carry it to Siberia. ?
At the heart of the binoculars is the long-known and reliable / popular Porro prism.
In general, such binoculars are distinguished by a very high-quality, bright and rich picture. This is achieved by using good lenses that have a high aperture ratio. The higher the aperture, the brighter and better the picture, you will see more details and nothing will be lost from your sight!
Experience of use
We use binoculars, mainly during our hikes and trips into the forest. Often you can observe different animals at a sufficient distance, it’s a pity that we rarely get bears, but we always see deer and moose!
I will also add that the binoculars lie perfectly in the hand. They do not slip and try to fall out, which is very important if the object of observation is moving and trying to hide, and you need to spot the place where the object went. So, not only the body material helps to simplify this task, but also auto-focus. Yes, an interesting system of auto-focusing of the image is applied in these binoculars, that it is enough to adjust it once to your eyes and then for complex correction of focus you will not need complicated manipulations, everything happens in seconds. Time really decides, believe me!
Yes, auto-focus works at a distance of 20 meters, and up to 20 meters to observe anything. ? Set it up once and everything is ready! You can watch from 20 to infinity without a constant supplying auto focus. Miracles, right?
Another important factor in the quality of optics for me, is the sharpness of the image. We all love sharp and contrast photos, so that we can see all the details clearly and perfectly. In addition, sufficient sharpness allows you to quickly identify the object and discover the person, beast, object or maybe an UFO. ?
The body material is very pleasant to hold, it does not slip even if it gets wet (for example, in the rain). Both in gloves, and without gloves – binoculars sit in hands equally strong, so there’s less chance of accidentally dropping it (a couple of times I dropped my old binoculars that were made of metal.)
The result
Maybe I will repeat, but Safari UltraSharp 10 × 30 will easily cover 95% of the tasks of a simple traveler or hunter, because the main task of binoculars is to help to find an object at distances where it will be very difficult to notice it by eyes! This binocular is for observation and detection, for other purposes there are already other models of binoculars from the company Steiner.
I liked the binoculars, because for me they were the most optimal ratio of price and quality. Yes, there are cheap China binoculars as well, but there are expensive ones like Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski – if you are really one of those who are looking for a reliable and trouble-free product, like Kalashnikov’s Automatic 47, and at the same time that the product is effective, then Safari UltraSharp 10 × 30 is then worth paying attention to.
