Golden Mask 4 PRO S – Reviewing and Testing The Metal Detector! (Video, Photos+)

In the meantime, a fresh review has appeared in time for a new modification of the Golden Mask 4 PRO S metal detector from MDetectors. Metal detector construction
The Golden Mask 4 PRO S has a standard design for any metal detector of this company – the standard Golden Mask rod, which has already proved itself on the good side, because this rod is sturdy, does not break, but it is quite comfortable, with a good balance and helps to compact the metal detector so compactly that you even ask yourself why other companies do not make similarly foldable and convenient bars?
Indeed, it folds so compactly that the metal detector with the coil can be folded and placed in a standard 60-liter backpack from the Bundeswehr, do you know this backpack? Durable and unbreakable, the best friend of a detectorist.
A good balance of the metal detector and the location of the battery compartment under the armrest helps on the weight distribution. The speaker is also located there, and therefore the usage of a rain cover for the battery compartment is very necessary! The metal detector works on 10 AA batteries, the batteries come along with a charger- and this is another bonus!
There’s also an SP/WS button on the battery compartment, if you have a model with wireless headphones, you can turn on the speaker or connect the headphones using this button. Simple and easily!
In the unfolded state, the metal detector is quite long and with my height of 194 cm, it was not difficult to fit the length of comfortable detecting. Sometimes it happens that the length of the rod is not enough, but with such a metal detector, then it is no problem.
The weight of the detector is only 1.4 kg, and this is together with the batteries.
The key feature of this modification, as already said, is the coil – the standard CEF 10×12. A pretty good coil, to use it as a regular, besides, it does not greatly increase the cost of the kit.
The armrest is also large and comfortable, strong enough to not break in the winter when you are wearing your jacket. A big plus for any metal detector.
The handle is also comfortable, it does not slip, it allows you to firmly hold the metal detector and the palm does not go numb when you wave the “stick” for the fourth hour in a row.
The operating frequency of the metal detector is 18 kHz, which means that it is more intended for finding medium and small coins and jewelery. We conducted the test – the results are below.
Metal detector settings
The metal detector is very simple, it’s not for nothing that it was nicknamed “Kalashnikov” in the world of metal detectors.
The on / off button and the volume control is located in the lower right corner. Then you have the ground balance in the lower left corner. Between them, there are two toggle switches – on the left: the ground balance mode (automatic or manual), right: selecting the discrimination mode (audio or multi-tone, it is also two-tone discrimination). Upper row of potentiometers, left-to-right: sensitivity adjustment (also threshold tone adjustment), sound frequency and discrimination level.
Also there is a small light bulb – the indicator of low battery level. It will light up when the batteries are almost flat, so watch out for it!
Regarding the settings and controls of the metal detector: the first thing to do when arriving at the detecting location, is to turn on the detector, then put the sensitivity to the maximum and perform ground balancing, then the sensitivity can be reduced for a more or less stable level of the metal detector operation. I always go in multi-tone and I like these settings.
Adjusting the frequency of the sound does not affect anything, just adjust the response frequency of the detector to your liking. I was satisfied with option 5, someone likes 1 and someone prefers 9. There is no difference, the depth and search characteristics of the metal detector are not affected.
Depth test
In the photo above you can see two objects: a “scale” silver coin and an Ancient Roman silver denarius. These two objects were buried in the ground and we checked the response of the metal detector to them. Watch the video:
The test itself starts at 7:25.
The result of the test: the detector stably sees the denarius at a depth of 25 cm, no problems, it takes the passage. We think that it will also see it at 28 cm, but at 30 or 32 cm there is already some doubting, but this can be checked later.
The silver “scale”: everything is more complicated here. The object itself is rather small and thin, and therefore many metal detectors in this price range (around EUR 300) will easily miss it, even at a depth of 5 cm. The Golden Mask 4 PRO saw this object steadily at 15 cm, but by 17 cm the signal was already leaving, with overflow into iron, clinging in one direction, then in two, in general, was unstable. As a result, it can be said that the scale was seen. This is often the difference between a beginner level detector and a semi-professional one. So the detector has justified itself in this.

The summary will be unambiguous – this detector is good enough to recommend to fellow detectorists. Yes, it’s analog, it works according to the VLF scheme, it has a frequency of 18 kHz, it does not have a display, but its idea is different – dig it all, buddy, and collect even the smallest coins where the guys with slower detectors with displays passed them!
It is an especially good detector to use in the forest and on the places where there were villages and old fields, for example. In such places, it is necessary to dig each signal, and a detector with an especially fast response and in this case will be very useful here. The speed of the response is simply amazing, it instantly responds to any target under the coil and can easily differ two nearby targets.
And especially if the detector comes with batteries and wireless headphones, but is cheaper than other models with which it can compete – this option should not be ignored. So, the Mask 4 PRO is recommended and advised. You need to look at it more seriously, the detector will show itself on the good side if you work for it and aren’t too lazy to dig the signals. You will be rewarded for your work!
