Garrett Ace 250 and Fisher F44 – comparing metal detectors
A comparison between these different detectors in their class, and with a difference at the age of almost 10 years, and yet in our time of rapid development it is a very long time consuming technology! But I would like to make a comparison, for the simple reason that the Internet has still very little information by the actual users, but mostly by advertisers.
Why I decided to compare “Ace 250» (DD Nel Sharpshooter coil) with the “Fisher”? Because I have had two years with this wonderful device! But for the same reason, the development of technology, I decided to try something new and bought the “Fisher F44» with an 11 DD coil. By the way, I decided not to leave the Ace 250, because the device is very robust and it has shown itself in the field.
All the spesification minuses of Ace 250, compared with “Fischer”, I will not go through: All those who are interested in these devices, are so well aware fo this that i will go directly to the behavior of these devices in practice.
More than anything with the “Fisher” I was pleased with the adjustable volume and very pleasant sounds of the signals. Since I go in the “artifacts” mode (it is in fact – a mode of “all metal”), i walk with headphones on 3-4 hours in rather littered fields. And what is really nice, that i do not pick up all kinds of false signals. The Ace in this case is very annoying, because it constantly beeps, though low, but at the same sound level with other metals, and by constantly shimmering tones i quickly get tired.
And now it’s time to tell you what i think is the most useful, as it seems to me, difference between: “Fisher,” in contrast to the “Ace”. The Ace often clings false signals as “color metals” and must be carried over the target for the second time, to accurately check the signal. “Fischer” has a low tone to false signals. Of course, there are times when i have to recheck the signalse of the “Fischer”. For example, on the Ace i have often dug iron bits with oval holes on the edges: the Ace told me that this is was a clear signal for the coin; “Fischer” can also squeak a high tone on such a piece of iron, but also with a grunt and a low tone. With such a signal i only spend a couple more times over the target and make sure that it is not different signals, and even the display will indicate that the target contains iron.
About the depth will not say anything. To me, it is – in general a strange concept: all sorts of tests on the air, that shows some incredible results, look different in actual field conditions.
Oh, and the “Fisher” has the function of “Ground Balance”. Using it is rather easy and not annoying, say, every 15 minutes, press the button and wave the coil vertical above the ground. After that, the detector is still stable. By the way i went to different conditions: in the forest, in a field with a sloping grass, and sensitivity was always set to maximum, and there were almost no false signals.
I will allow myself to advise beginners who are faced with a choice, to choose which device to start with. All of course, limited by your budget and the Ace 250 is an excellent starting point for the development of detecting and honestly say that your interesting finds you not be less than with the other, more professional device, but you’ll have to dig a lot of iron and the finds from it are rarely interesting, if you are, of course, digging for the old days, not war.
With «Fisher»you will be digging less, and after a short time it will be clear what lies under the coil. A light weight of the device and operation from two AA batteries will give you a comfortable pastime in the field. Of course the price is higher, but as they say, you have to pay for the pleasure .
My opinion: «Fisher» – very comfortable unit, equipped with modern technology, which for the experienced user makes digging a pleasant stroll and ease of use with its useful features to suit everyone.
Good luck with the digging!
