Hello, friends! I love tactical equipment and, I tell you, it’s not out of nothing! In addition, I use a lot of such tactical equipment for detecting, so what are the advantages of the tactical equipment I have? The main reasons are:

1. Convenience. In tactical equipment, the maximum of convenience is observed at long transitions in the most unfavorable environments.
2. Practicality. With constant movement and being away from comfortable habitats, we must be sure that each item of equipment has a definite purpose for use and has the maximum utility and functionality.
3. Reliability. Any of the things that we use outside the home (in camping, out detecting, in the transition from point to point), should be reliable and not lead us to a difficult moment. Go to any boutique where your wife buys stuff, and take this in the woods – you will understand that the money was paid in vain, for the holiday and for hiking clothes and equipment should be different.

Therefore, I am constantly in search of things that can be useful to any person who leads an active lifestyle, I test everything myself and check that there is not the slightest cant in the gear. Because you, my friends, will never see some unnecessary thing or a review of something impractical and unnecessary on the pages of my blog, but will only see items that have passed my “qualifying round”. In this case, I was interested in finding a suitable backpack for small transitions for one day, with a volume of around 20-30 liters. There is the, already a famous for many, backpack from the UMBTS series, which is included in the kit 6SH112 from Russia. The backpack is a patrol version with a capacity of 25 liters. I began to watch the Internet and came across a review of one guy about a similar backpack. The backpack interested me and I decided, after reading the review, to take a similar backpack. ?

Patrol backpack – 25 Liters

A good backpack is never lying on the road. For what it can be useful in our case? It’s simple. We arrive at a point, for example – a forest or a large field. We park the car, covered it from unnecessary eyes. Assemble the detector, take the shovel, a map or GPS with coordinates where to go and wander away. You can end up walking a long time, I once had to walk multiple kilometers just to the point of detecting, because there was no possibility to get nearer! And the place was notable; during the war, in 1944, the battle there was strong! How can such a place not have been dug up? And we do not go on foot in order to return to the car in a couple of hours, it’s better to take all the useful and necessary things for a day’s detecting with you. But what could that be? Anything, but only the most necessary things in our business:

• A set of spare batteries – for the metal detector and the pinpointer.
• Snack – sandwiches, MRA and so on.
• A stock of water and a thermos of hot tea/coffee.
• An additional coil for the detector.
• Extra jacket / T-shirt / gloves / socks – removable / spare clothing for changeable weather.
• First Aid Kit.
• And of course, extra place for the finds?
• And the one who prepares/heats the food, he has to take something like a mini-oven, with spoons/forks of course.

And this is only the smallest list! At least, this is what I usually take with me, if the trip is out of the way of the roads and not easily reached by an off-road car. In this regard, the 6SH112 backpack was very useful.

The backpack has a rather simple and almost ingenious design. In the center, we have the man department where you can put the big goods, with the volume of liters 20. If you pull the top, you lose about 2.3 liters. Only do this if the backpack is half empty. On the sides, we can put approximately 2.6 liters, almost a three-liter jar!

The main section is supported by two slings, no zip-tie, which is also good – quietly and quickly open it. Another plus of such a system is additional protection from moisture and from uninvited guests in the form of insects, it is important that you wrap your food, especially the meat.

To demonstrate the importance of the space of the main compartment – an example is taken from a real history. We were out detecting, and a friend found a German helmet, and there was nowhere to put it. In the finds bag? Does not fit, and there are coins and other metals there, and there was no bag in his pocket, so he took the detector, the shovel, and the helmet in the other hand and stomped to the car through the thick of the forest. But if he had this backpack, he could safely have put the helmet in his backpack and look further, maybe there was something more of interest next to the helmet? And you will not run every time back and forth to put away the finds. And what if you have to walk a kilometer or two, or three or maybe four? In general, according to my observation, in such a backpack you can fit three German helmets. Confident, right? As an example, above you can see my М34 helmet from 1935. The preservation is, of course, tells us that it is not detected, but found in an attic.

The manufacturer’s tag. Material 100% nylon, an equivalent of Cordura fabric, as the manufacturer says, the density is 900 Den. Here everything is simple: this fabric is necessary for obtaining maximum durability and wear resistance of the product, that is why most clothes, outfits, and outfits for military and relevant civil structures are made of nylon, where high quality and reliability are required, and this is our case. If you go to detecting and rip cheap backpacks from eBay or the nearest market, which quickly get wet, you will lose the color and in one trip (or the second or third) day, they will just break at an unnecessary moment – do you really want this? I do not because nylon is the indicator for us, look always at the composition and material of the product.

There are two compartments in the backpack valve. The first one (pictured above) is more suitable for storing different small things, you can put the documents or a card, for example. The fabric holds water well, which means it should not leak quickly.

The second compartment can also be used to store different things, but as an idea, you can sew some cover-protection from the rain. It will be possible to quickly and easily open a pocket and close the case with the entire backpack, this is in case it pours strongly, and you have to go to the destination for a long time.

Closed pocket on the backpack and slings valve to hold the backpack in your hand. I would wind it with a paracord, too, but in general, in gloves, it is quite comfortable and does not cut your hand. In general, I do not use such holders because of the old habit, I keep the satchel always in one of the straps to quickly or put the satchel somewhere or put my satchel on my back. Time for us is money. The holder is useful if you suddenly need to throw a backpack on a rope from one bank to another or to climb buildings and mountains. In our case, this is not the main thing.

Back! What is the main thing in the back of any backpack? This, of course, the maximum possible ventilation, so that in the summer in the heat the back does not pour from sweat, which leads to unpleasant sensations. In this case, the problem is partly solved by additional material and, as can be seen in the photo above, by special channels for ventilation, which are stitched on. This helps steer steam and moisture. Because we are not talking about a backpack in the price of 200 euros and the brand Tasmanian Tiger, or slightly more than 100 euros and with the brand 5.11 ? It performs its task well and this is the main thing.

On the straps, there are additional straps with fastening on the fastex. The task of such straps is understandable – if you correctly fold the backpack (the correct balance and position of weight), having fastened two straps through fastex, it will be much more convenient for you to carry a backpack, because the weight will not be felt, the straps will not shake and the backpack will not hold your movements back when walking fast and when changing position and slopes.

The side pockets also close on the fastex.

It’s good that the side pockets are equipped with a tightening and a waterproof neck.

The side pocket is quite bulky, for example, I easily fit the case for my action camera Garmin Virb Ultra 30 in there. In the case, besides the camera, there is a set of mounts and two additional batteries. We will slowly film different funny videos! ?

Mint helmet M34 made in 1935 and the backpack. Let me remind you that in spite of the total space of the backpack in 25 liters, the main department can fit up to three helmets, and without the liners, you will be able to fit more, you simply put one in the other.

Who does not know what kind of a large number of stitched lines this is, it is called MOLLE fasteners. This is a military standard for fasteners, allows you to easily attach additional pockets, pouches, and covers. For example, you can attach a pouch with a first aid kit, a pocket for a flask or an additional pocket for cards – it all depends on your imagination, the availability of pouches depends on you. Versatility is the main advantage for MOLLE mounts because you yourself are free to choose where to hang this or that pouch.

And I almost forgot – at the bottom of the backpack, both in the main compartment and in the side pockets, there are additional holes for draining the water. Trifle, but nice! If you choose a backpack, then take it with such holes, because if you fall into a swamp or a stream, even accidentally, you will not have to shake out the backpack and drain the water out of it – let the water leave through such holes. It is clear that the things inside have to be dried separately, but believe me, it is better than having the water merged and that your things are damp than if they swim in this water in your backpack. This applies if you put a wet thing in a backpack – water from it will also drain.
And additional straps from the bottom, they are convenient for hanging a mat or a mattress, which, in general, is the same thing. The space for imagination is unlimited.

The A-TACS FG camouflage – why exactly that coloring?

The coloring is relatively new and not so familiar and recognizable to an ordinary person as the same Flecktarn, Olive or Multicam. I chose this coloring for testing and answering the question: how effective will A-TACS FG be for me, because I live in a place where pine and coniferous forests often pass into green fields and into deciduous forest. The Flecktarn is good in such a pine forest, for example, but for the field, it will be a thorn in the eye. Multicam is more like a desert-mountain-city camouflage, yes, it’s nice and convenient, but too cheesy nowadays. But that is a matter of personal taste – here everyone is his own master.
For example, I put a backpack on pine branches. In general, if you look closely, you can see it, but what if you move away?

Live it is less visible than in the photo, of course, but in general – the advantage of A-TACS FG is to break the silhouette of the object. In this case, it is already unclear whether it is a backpack or someone hid in the bushes. And if you move it from the green to a shady place and where there are more dry pines? Or put it a little lower, close to the ground? It will disappear completely. Let’s see, maybe in the future, I will do a small comparative test of A-TACS FG with the Flecktarn, for example. It will be interesting to see the result. ?
